India solar power cheaper than coal costs would drop the 40

Polaris solar PV net news: India’s Energy Minister Pi Yueshi ˙ Ajay Goyal (Piyush Goyal) said on Monday that India will exceed target on solar energy development, is completed by 2022, more than 100,000 megawatt of solar installed capacity.

He said: “the new solar power will cost more than coal-fired power plant. About solar power, 7×24-hour electricity challenges remain, we admit it. But we can not achievable on a subsidy basis based on solar energy for long-term goals. ”

Last fiscal year, India Government has approved nearly 20,000 megawatt of solar installed capacity, planned for 2016 when the installed capacity will reach 14,000 MW of solar energy.

According to Deutsche Bank’s data, solar power costs fell 60% the past 4 years, but will decline in the future 40%. In last year’s report, Deutsche Bank predicts that solar energy investment more than investment in coal-fired power by 2020.

In January this year, India hit a record low price of solar power. In Rajasthan, in 420 megawatt solar energy auction, price per kWh is only 4.34 trillion rupiah (about 0.42 Yuan). By comparison, coal-fired electricity price per kilowatt hour from 3 to 5 rupees (about 0.29-0.49 Yuan).
